Cold Cases – Francis DeAlvis

Francis DeAlvis

In 1984, Francis DeAlvis was a beloved, 58-year-old elementary school teacher, living alone in an apartment in Monterey. On the afternoon of August 16, 1984, after not hearing from him for a few days, Francis’ family and the apartment manager found him deceased in his apartment. He had been stabbed to death, and the apartment appeared to have been ransacked. No definitive suspects were identified during the initial investigation.

The Monterey Police Department and the DA’s Office Cold Case Task Force have been re-investigating this case for the past several years, utilizing DNA related evidence to attempt to identify possible suspects, to no avail at this point. With the current advancements in DNA technology, the possibility of further, advanced DNA work on multiple items of evidence, as well as Investigative Genetic Genealogy, is a definite possibility.

Although a clear connection has not, as yet, been identified, the murder of Francis took place 5 months after the still unsolved Monterey murder of Jerry James, who was also killed inside his own home. Both Francis and Jerry were known to entertain recent acquaintances at their homes.
