Cold Cases – 2011 Attempted Murder

2011 Attempted Murder of Jane Doe
On August 18, 2011, several field workers in Monterey County located a woman that had been badly beaten and left for dead in a farm field. Although suffering from skull fractures and a hazy memory of what had taken place, the original detectives had determined that Jane Doe had been assaulted and beaten at another location, then dumped and left for dead in the field.
DNA was collected from Doe during the initial investigation. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, along with the DA’s Office Cold Case Task Force, have been re-investigating this crime, specifically concentrating on using modern techniques, including Investigative Genetic Genealogy, to attempt to identify the possible suspect(s).
At the time, this case was thought to have been potentially related to an unsolved Salinas homicide, as well as several other similar assaults on women in the area. These links are also under investigation.
